A very detailed account of the life of Damien in the leper colony. However, the Catholic bureaucracy did its best to make his job most difficult through lies, innuendo,proken promises, etc.

I have read two other books about the leper colony, one about Damien and the other “Mary of Molokai”, but this one was the best.

I’m sure there could have been if the author had used her imagination and created conversations and incidents that weren’t documented historically. But she stuck to historical fact and real life isn’t recorded in letters and documents. The book needs to be fleshed out with what might have been said under the circumstances or what might have happened.
